The Garden

In ancient Greece the "garden" was synonymous with reflection. In one of the gardens of Athens began Plato's academy. It was in a garden that his disciple Aristotle debated with his followers to make sure that thought was free, and not locked up.

Later Epicurus also opened his school in a garden to men, women and even slaves, a place for all who wanted to live peacefully.

The Federation Garden is a shared place of reflection, inclusion and openness. It aims to cross visions on aspects that go beyond space and technology, to co-construct a sustainable and open space culture and to guide collective action in articulation with all the components of Federation.

The principles

The Federation Garden is defined in the statutes as follows:

"The Garden brings together the association's partners, active members, honorary members, and experts or other personalities working for the development of FEDERATION. This body has no voting rights. It animates exchanges between the partners and the association for the development of the FEDERATION ecosystem and acts as a think tank and feeds debates on the orientations in terms of technological development, ethical, societal and environmental aspects. »

It is a space for dialogue built on the principles of the Federation Charter :

  • Inclusion: there is no logic of inscription. The Garden is porous by definition. All those who work for the development of the Federation are part of it, whatever their skills or experience.
  • Openness: the themes addressed go well beyond the spatial. The Garden's production is part of an open source logic. By guaranteeing the sharing of results to as many people as possible, Fédération is betting on making them common.
  • Collaboration: The Garden relies on collective intelligence as implemented by Open Space Makers.
  • Sustainability: The Garden's activity is part of a sustainable, long-term approach that respects present and future environmental challenges.
  • Responsibility: The Garden anchors its action in a responsible and exemplary approach on the scale of society.
  • Benevolence: The participants act in accordance with structuring individual and collective ethical principles.

Objectives

Going beyond technology and space: The Garden is a meeting space between vertical and horizontal structures, established actors and communities, amateurs and professionals. It should allow to cross visions on aspects that go beyond space and technology to co-construct a sustainable and open spatial culture and guide collective action. The hybridization of the Federation ecosystem with industrial, institutional and associative actors from sectors other than space is at the heart of the approach.

Implementation

The Garden, like all the activities of Federation, is characterized by the territorial anchorage and the digital animation in this sense it is based on :

  • Events not fixed in a precise format and allowing participants to meet and work together on themes.
  • The use of the collaborative web platform. It integrates a space dedicated to the Garden providing collaborative tools for sharing, creating and disseminating knowledge.

The access to the Federation contribution framework and to the collaborative engineering devices implemented by Open Space Makers is conditioned by the acceptance of the Federation Charter via the registration to the platform when one joins Federation on an individual basis or by the conclusion of a partnership agreement with Open Space Makers when it is a professional framework.

The themes treated within the Federation Garden, in coherence with its stakes, are transversal and with a strong organizational, societal and environmental component. Any active member, honorary member and partner can propose subjects of reflection on the Garden space of the collaborative platform or organize events in coordination with Open Space Makers.

The Garden produces content co-constructed between all its participants. The results of its activity are published on the web platform according to open source licenses and the rules of the Federation Charter.
